In the 2023 SAFF U-16 Championship final, India defeated Bangladesh by score of 2-0 to clinch their fifth title. For India, Bharat Lairenjam and Levis Zangminlun scored one goal apiece in the final. Although there is no confirmation regarding this event’s prize money, it is expected that AIFF & Government will reward the players and staff with monetary rewards.

2023 SAFF U-16 Championship final India vs Bangladesh winner, result, score, & goal scorers

Eight minutes into the game, India made its first significant progress. Bharat Lairenjam scored after receiving an excellent through ball from Levis Zangminlun. To score the goal, Lairenjam quickly moved into the open space in front of him and slipped the ball past Bangladesh custodian Mohammad Nahidul Islam. Lairenjam and India’s captain, Mate Ngamgouhou, applied sustained pressure to the Bangladeshi defense throughout the first half, leading to numerous scoring opportunities. However, some superb saves by Nahidul Islam meant that the score remained 1-0 in favor of India.

India maintained its vigor as it began the second half. Their tenacious pursuit of a second goal was rewarded in the 74th minute with an exquisite shot. Before brilliantly reversing play to pass the ball to Levis Zangminlun on the other flank, Samson Ahongshangbam started a promising move down the left wing. Zangminlun outmaneuvered his opponent and quickly exchanged passes with Vishal Yadav to find himself in an open area. He took a time to center himself before launching a powerful left-footed shot that soared into the goal and doubled India’s lead. Ultimately, no more goals were scored and India won the clash 2-0 to capture the title.

SAFF U-16 Championship 2023: prize money & trophy details

After scoring three goals in the tournament including his brace in the semi-final and match winner against Nepal, Indian star Md Arbash was recognized as the Tournament’s Top Scorer and Best Player. Meanwhile, Indian goalkeeper Suraj Singh was awarded as the best goalkeeper after earning four clean sheets throughout the event and not conceding a single goal.

The prize money isn’t known.
