The much-awaited SA20 2023 will feature a host of new rules and conditions and new paling formats check out all the news changes below.

SA20 2023 is South Africa’s inaugural T20 tournament and will feature a total of 33 matches from January 10 to February 11 across six different venues.

For the inaugural event, six different franchises, will compete for the title. The six teams include – MI Cape Town, Paarl Royals, Durban Super Giants, Joburg Super Kings, Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Pretoria Capitals.

New rules and playing formats

The SA20 announced a new set of exciting additions to its playing format ahead of the tournament. Given below are the new changes made to the game:

  • A team captain can nominate upto 13 players to take the field before the toss. Following which, the captain can then pick a final XI after the toss. The two remaining players will then become substitute players.
  • The winning teams will win four points along with a bonus-point, while ensuring that they achieve a run rate, which is 1.25 times that of the opposition. Matches that end with no result, will leave both teams with two points each.
  • In case a player makes an intentional attempt to run out the batter, no extra runs will be awarded if a direct hit deflects off of the stumps.
  • A bowled dismissal will not result in byes if the ball ricochets off the stumps with a free hit.

New rules for SA20 2023 teams finishing on equal points

In cases where teams finish on equal points, the right to progress into the finals and in the play-off rounds will be determined on the following factors in the given order:

  1. The team with the most number of wins
  2. The team with the highest number of bonus points
  3. The team with the highest net run rate
  4. The team with the most number of wins over the other team(s) who are equal on points and have the same number of wins
  5. The team with the highest runs-to-wickets ratio all through the tournament
  6. The team with the highest wickets to runs ratio during the tournament
