Russian news outlets indicate that Antov, 65, died after falling out of a hotel window in the city of Rayagada on Sunday. As reported by Express on Friday, December 23, another member of his four-person Russian entourage, Vladimir Budanov, was pronounced deceased at the hotel.
Antov’s death came after his friend and travel companion Vladimir Budanov died of a heart attack on Antov’s 65th birthday, two days earlier. Budanov was 61 years old and had a preexisting heart condition.

Odisha police superintendent Vivekananda Sharma said that Budanov had a stroke and that his friend “was depressed after his death, and Pavel Antov too died.” Also the police in Kolkata could not find any “criminal element in these sad circumstances,” according to Alexei Idamkin, the Russian consul there. It is possible that Budanov “consumed a lot of booze as he had liquor bottles,” as stated by his tour guide.
