Hall is not Murdoch’s first or even second wife; she is his fourth wife and his fourth divorce. Murdoch is one of the world’s wealthiest men, amassing his fortune through his media empires at News Corp and Fox Corporation. His current net worth stands at $20 billion.
Murdoch amassed a collection of wives in addition to a fortune and companies. In 1956, the tycoon married his first wife, Patricia Brooker. He and the former flight attendant had one daughter, Prudence, together after ten years of marriage.
Murdoch married his second wife, Anna Mann, the same year he divorced Brooker. He had three children with Mann, Elisabeth Murdoch (born 1968), Lachlan Murdoch (born 1971), and James Murdoch (born 1972), and the couple was married for 32 years before divorcing in 1999.
Murdoch met the one and only Wendi Deng at this time.
Who is Wendi Deng?
Deng is a Chinese-born American entrepreneur, investor, film producer, media mogul, and Chinese contemporary art collector.
The 53-year-old met Murdoch, 37 years her senior, in 1997 while working as an executive at Murdoch’s Star TV in Hong Kong. They married just 17 days after his divorce from Mann was finalized in 1999. Deng and Murdoch have two daughters, Grace (born in 2001) and Chloe (born in 2004).
Deng has a net worth of $100 million as a result of her career and relationship with Murdoch, and she cannot be known solely for her marriage to the mogul. She enrolled at Guangzhou Medical College at the age of 16, but in 1988, she dropped out and went to the United States on a study permit, where she studied economics and was among the top scorers. She then earned an MBA from Yale University.
Deng worked in the 1990s to plan Star TV’s operations in Hong Kong and China, as well as to expand Chinese distribution for Star’s Channel V music channel. Deng then made her film producing debut in 2011 with Snow Flower and The Secret Fan, which won the Golden Angel Award at the Chinese American Film Festival.
She then produced the documentary Sky Ladder: The Art of Cai Guo-Qiang in 2016. Deng has also appeared in episodes of Charlie Rose and Made in Hollywood on television. Deng has also served as an advisor to My Space’s China operation prior to the company’s sale to Specific Media in June 2011, as well as investing in technology start-ups such as Oscar, Snapchat, Uber, and Warby Parker.
