Iqbal Mohammad Sheikh, a taxi driver, brutally murdered his wife Rupali Chandanshive, 20, by slicing her neck because she refused to abide by Islamic customs and demanded a divorce

Sheikh and Rupali have a 2-year-old boy and were married three years ago. Given that Rupali would have been a minor at the time of the marriage and that she had reportedly converted. Changing her name to Zara raises concerns about the validity of the marriage and conversion. The stark difference in their ages suggests that Sheikh began grooming Rupali while she was obviously a minor, presumably between the ages of 14 and 15.

In their complaint, Rupali’s family claimed that from the very first day of their marriage, Sheikh and his family put pressure on her to adhere to Islamic customs. And wear a burqa. Rupali, however, rejected it. This frequently resulted in fights between the two. And for the past six months, Rupali had been living separately after leaving her marital home.
“A guy named Iqbal Mohammad Sheikh killed his wife on September 26 at around 10 p.m. by slicing her throat and cutting her hands. According to the complaint, the accused and his family members used to put pressure on her to adhere to Islamic customs. And dress in attire appropriate for Muslim women. However, the woman refused, and a family argument ensued.”
“They had been maintaining their distance for a while. However, they used to argue and talk during calls. The woman requested a divorce from the accused on Monday. When they were conversing over the phone, but he refused. The lady objected when the man then requested custody of their son. They got into a fight over it, which resulted in the murder,” said Rathod.
After arguing with Rupali on the phone yesterday night, Sheikh went to meet her to convince her to go back home. Rupali, however, was steadfast in her choice to get a divorce. After dragging Rupali to a neighbouring road, Sheikh killed her by slitting her throat and stabbing her hands. After committing the crime, he escaped.
Locals came to rescue Rupali after hearing her screams and called the police to report the incident. When police arrived, they sent her body for an autopsy. They started a manhunt shortly after and eventually caught the suspect. He is currently being questioned in relation to the event.
Such incidents highlight the urgent need for a federal anti-conversion law, similar to those in the states of UP and MP. As well as a requirement that all interfaith unions be governed by the SMA (Special Marriage Act).
Which doesn’t call for either side to convert and better protects women’s rights. It also demonstrates that proposals to raise the marriage age to 21 are the rising danger of jihadis. That are being trained to prey on teenage Hindu girls and the mess our courts have made by repeatedly upholding sharia law. Which permits Muslim girls to get married as soon as they reach puberty or turn 15.
