The upcoming tournament will feature a total of 48 matches played across seven weeks.
The Rugby World Cup 2023 will broadcast on Stan Sport and Nine as they securing exclusive broadcast rights.
Most games will be broadcast on ITV1, though ITV4 will also provide coverage and fans can also live stream the action via the ITV Hub on a variety of devices.
Rugby World Cup 2023 tournament format
The upcoming tournament begins with the group stage featuring 20 teams divided into four pools of five teams each. Following the end of this round, the top two teams from each group will then advance to the knockout phase. The phase begins with the quarterfinals, followed by the semifinals, the bronze match and the final match.
Rugby World Cup 2023 group-stage points system
During the first round, i.e. the group stage, winning teams will receive four points for a win, two for a draw and zero for a defeat. Moreover, scoring four tries and/or losing by less than eight points will each give a bonus point. In case two teams are level on points at the end of the group stage, given below is the criteria for deciding placings, listed in chronological order:
- The winner when the two teams previously played each other
- The team with the best points difference
- The team with the best tries difference
- The team with the highest scorers in pool matches
- The team with the most tries in pool matches
- The team with the higher official ranking
