The Catalan club had been trying to re-sign the centre-back for some time, as his current contract was set to end in 2023. Because of the uncertainty surrounding his future, reports linked him to Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United, but the Uruguayan has chosen to stay at Camp Nou.
What does Araujo’s new deal entail?
The 23-year-old will stay with the Blaugrana for another three years. A €1 billion (£840 million/$1.1 billion) release provision is also included in the agreement. He will receive a salary of €6 million as per the recent news.

What role has Araujo played for Barcelona?
Araujo joined Barcelona from Boston River in Uruguay in 2018 and made his senior debut in October of that year. He has now made 78 appearances for the club, with half of them coming in the 2021-22 season.
