However, Liverpool’s subsequent attempt to hijack the deal with a bid of $76 million (£59 million, €69 million) was ultimately in vain, as Lavia remained committed to his choice of Chelsea due to the more favorable contractual terms.
This transfer is not without financial implications for other clubs. Manchester City, who had a buy-back clause on Lavia, stands to gain $13 million from this transaction.
Southampton, the club Lavia is leaving behind, secured a significant transfer fee of up to £58 million ($73.7 million), with the Blues paying £53 million upfront and an additional £5 million in performance-related add-ons. Lavia’s net worth is estimated to be £2.2 million in 2023.
The Belgium youngster, who had joined the Southampton team during the summer of 2022, secured a contract for five years and in this arrangement, he was earning $32,000 every week, adding up to an annual total of about $1.65 million while being a part of Southampton but his Chelsea salary isn’t known.
According to The Athletic, Boehly is introducing a new wage system and it will see younger players offered lower base salaries with performance incentive bonuses.
While the number 4 is available at Chelsea, Caicedo is expected to stick with the 25 shirt he wore for Brighton. As for Lavia he might also fancy continuing with the 45 shirt.
As Lavia settles into his new surroundings at Stamford Bridge, he brings with him the experience of 29 Premier League starts for Southampton in the previous season.
