India had to beat the total of 272 runs. Even though Shreyas Iyer (82), Axar Patel (56), and captain Rohit Sharma (51 not out in 28 balls) all played bravely, India fell short by five runs and didn’t reach the goal.
It was India’s first loss in a bilateral series while Rohit was in charge. Rohit did everything he could to help India win the second ODI, which they needed to do to keep the series going. However, his heroic efforts were in vain because he missed a six on the last ball of the run chase.
India needed 20 runs from the last six balls of the chase to win, but Rohit, who came out to bat even though he was hurt while India was fielding, could only hit two fours and one six for a total of 14 runs.
Rohit hurt his thumb when he tried to catch a ball during Mohammed Siraj’s fourth throw of the second over. He was in the slip cordon at the time and was trying to catch a ball. The Indian captain was taken off the field right away, and Rajat Patidar took his place.
