Seven months into the position, he leaves, and assistant Nick Chadwick follows him on an interim basis through the end of the season. Robbie Stockdale was replaced by 46-year-old Jim Bentley after the team’s first four league defeats.

With eight games left, Dale is 10 points behind Crawley in 22nd place and has won six of its last 32 league games. They suffered their 24th league loss of the year on Saturday at Broadfield Stadium, which brought them one step closer to relegation.
It’s absurd to think that Dale was competing in League One just two years ago after they lost more games in the fourth tier of English football than any other team this season. The team, who was promoted in 2013–14 but was relegated in 2020–21, placed 18th last season in their second season back in League Two.
Following Stockdale’s departure, they defeated Colchester in late September to earn their first league victory. They then went on a run of three straight victories and won the Papa Johns’ Trophy against Liverpool Under-21s. However, between October and their victory over Stevenage in March 2023, they only managed two victories across all competitions.
