Much to the delight of Indian fans, two fighters from India Sumit Kumar in the flyweight division, and Rana Rudra Pratap Singh in the bantamweight division will feature in the competition.

Last season, Anshul Jubli became the first Indian fighter to land a UFC contract after he won the final.

Road To UFC Season 2 opening round start date

Road To UFC Season 2 will begin with its opening round across two days, on May 27 and 28. The event will take place in Shanghai, China at the UFC Performance Institute (UFC PI). It will be the first live, broadcast event taking place within the UFC PI Shanghai.

Interestingly, UFC PI is the world’s largest, state-of-the-art MMA training and development facility. The UFC opened the Performance Institute Shanghai back in 2019, and measure at 93,000 square feet.

The venue is nearly three times as large as the original UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas. It also serves as the headquarters in Asia and a place to develop and support the next generation of MMA athletes from across mainland China and the greater Asia-Pacific region.

Aside from that, the facility also serves as Official High Performance Advisor to the Chinese Olympic Committee and hosts UFC Academy, which is the region’s leading MMA talent development program.

Road To UFC format

The Road To UFC will feature a “win and advance” tournament, which will give top MMA prospects from Asia a chance to win a UFC contract. There will be four weight classes where each mixed martial arts athletes will compete in each weight class. The four weight classes are: flyweight, bantamweight, featherweight and lightweight.
