The Rings of Power recently came to a dramatic finale, and almost immediately after the closing credits, people all across the world started to think about what lies ahead.

The news is that the Rings of Power season 2 is in production but as of October 14th, neither the showrunners nor Amazon Prime Studios have officially announced a release date or even a projected window.

However, the second season of the fantasy series will most likely take a few more years to complete, according to one of the series’ co-creators. Patrick McKay, the showrunner and co-creator of The Rings of Power, spoke exclusively with The Hollywood Reporter on October 5th, 2022.

During the interview, McKay reaffirmed that the production team anticipates spending “another couple years” working on season 2.

This places a possible release window for the second season in 2024 since season 1 has recently finished its global OTT run on Amazon Prime Video.

The head of Amazon Studios, Jennifer Salke, has recently stated that a 2023 release is not currently the intention. The production crew is now working on Season 2, she said in a statement to Variety, adding “We’re going to get that out into the world as soon as we can.”
