Reports State Rishabh Pant To Lose Out On Delhi Capitals’ Captaincy If Shreyas Iyer Regains Fitness Ahead Of IPL 2021 Restart

Rishabh Pant was handed the capital side’s captaincy for this year’s season owing to the injury Shreyas Iyer had sustained against England

When Rishabh Pant was named as Delhi Capitals’ captain for the 2021 instalment of the Indian Premier League, not everyone was sold in on the idea. While the wicket-keeper batsman was in exceptional form with the bat, his credentials as a captain were yet to be really tested on the big stage.

However, although Pant had a slew of hiccups in his new role in the start of IPL 2021, the Delhi based wicket-keeper slowly settled into his new role. Settling into his grove with each passing clash, Pant guided Delhi Capitals to top spot in the points tally with the side edging out Chennai Super Kings with 12 points.

Unfortunately for Pant, his achievement is set to have little bearing on him becoming the permanent captain of the Delhi Capitals side. As per Sports Today, the Delhi captaincy is set to be reinstated in Shreyas Iyer’s favour if the batsman can recover from his injury ahead of the tournament’s restart.

Shreyas Iyer Injury

Iyer who has sustained a shoulder injury during the first ODI against England was ruled out of the entirety of the IPL season. However, with the IPL getting suspended owing to manifold COVID positive cases in the teams’ ranks, Iyer was given extra time to regain his fitness.

And with the Indian Premier League likely to restart in the middle of September, Iyer looks likely to returned from the injury. It would spell of Pant’s spell as captain of the IPL side based out of Delhi.

While Pant’s decision making was questionable at times, the player was exquisite with the bat. His ability to hit the ball in the middle and send it to the fence saw him come up with a slew of pivotal explosive innings for his team.

Kiran More had meanwhile recently backed Pant to become the next Indian captain.
