Real Madrid vs Chelsea head-to-head history
This season’s clash between the two marks the third successive time these two clubs have faced each other in the Champions League. So far, the previous two editions have both feature mixed results on either side.
In their first encounter, during the 2020/21 Champions League semifinals, Thomas Tuchel’s Blues beat Zinedine Zidane’s Madrid. Chelsea Bead Madrid thanks to a 2-0 second-leg win at Stamford Bridge.
However, in last season’s quarterfinals matchup, Real Madrid came from behind to produce a trademark comeback. Karim Benzema’s produced a superb hat-trick to seal a 3-1 first-leg win in London. However, Chelsea secured a dominant 3-0 lead with just 10 minutes left in Madrid. Despite the pressure, Benzema stepped up again to secure a wild turnaround.
Interestingly, both sides have gone on to win the Champions League following their respective wins in the two seasons.
