Bollywood couple Ranveer Singh And Deepika Padukone have thrown their name in the list of the bidders for a new IPL 2022 team

After years of yearning for an expanded Indian Premier League, ardent lovers of the showpiece league are set to get two new teams. The 2022 edition of the IPL will feature 10 teams with the BCCI releasing the tender for the bidding process of the new sides.

A slew of conglomerates and businessmen of high stature have gone onto pick up the tender in a bid to get associated with one of the most lucrative leagues in the world. As per latest reports, Bollywood’s Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone have joined the race to be the owners of an IPL team.

Bollywood actors have held a long affinity with the Indian Premier League with a bevy of them already having an ownership in teams. KKR is co-owned by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla while Preity Zinta has stakes in Punjab Kings.

While the Adani Group and the RP-Sanjeev Goenka Group are said to be leading the hunt for the two new teams, manifold notable companies have thrown their name in the reckoning as well. Premier League side Manchester United’s owners, the Glazer family is interested in owning a team with the bid documents also being picked up by companies like Torrent Pharma and Aurobindo Pharma, a Singapore-based private equity firm and US-based venture capitalists.

Naveen Jindal of Jindal Power and Steel has also gone onto pick up the tender. The final bid to land a team is said to land anywhere between $375 to 425 million for a 10 year license.
