Ranking The Top 10 Best And Famous Indian Men Golfers Of All Time

Indian golfers brought home 9 titles in 2017, the highest in a decade and earned a prize money more than US $5 million (approx. INR 32.5 crore), as recorded by Golf Digest India. With three of India’s best golfers making it to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Finals, two male and one female, read on to know about ten men who are setting the Indian golfing scene on fire.

Top Ten Famous And Greatest Indian Men Golfers Of All Time

1. Shubhankar Sharma

At the age of 21, Shubhankar Sharma was the youngest Indian to win two European Tour titles. He is also the fifth Indian to win multiple European titles and the first golfer to win two of them in the current season.

2. Anirban Lahiri

Anirban Lahiri accolades include seven wins on the Asian tour and two wins on the European tour. His tied-5th at the 2015 PGA Championship is an Indian’s best finish at one of the four majors. He also made it to the Tokyo Olympics final this year and finished at #42.

3. Gaganjeet Bhullar

Gaganjeet Bhullar started playing golf at the age of 9, idolizing Jeev Milkha Singh and Jyoti Randhawa. Following his win at the 2017 Macao Open, he became the youngest golfer to win eight tournaments on the Asian Tour.

4. Shiv Kapur

Shiv Kapur is the only golfer to win multiple titles on the Asian Tour in 2017. Named Rookie of the Year in 2005, he won the 2000 Indian and Malaysian Amateur Opens and brought an individual gold medal home at the 2002 Asian Games.

5. Ajeetesh Sandhu

Ajeetesh Sandhu became the second Indian to win on the Asian tour at the 2017 Yeangder TPC in Chinese Taipei, which was his breakthrough. His father helped him pick up golf and he played alongside Anirban Lahiri and Gaganjeet Bhullar in his junior years.

6. Udayan Mane

Udayan Mane was the first rookie to win two titles on the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) in 2015. He represented India in the 2014 Asian Games, before turning pro next year. He even made it to the Tokyo Olympics Golf finals and finished at #56.

7. Karandeep Kochhar

Chandigarh’s Karandeep Kochhar first stole the limelight when he became the youngest-lone amateur from India to win a PGTI event, at the age of 17. Last year, he won the Jeev Milkha Singh invitational golf tournament.

8. Chikkarangappa S

Chikkarangappa S broke the stereotype about golf being an elite sport when he went from caddie to professional golfer. His amateur career saw him win the Junior National Golf Championship and Asian Pacific Junior Championship. He would go on to compete on the European and Asian Tours as well.

9. Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan brought the silver medal home at the 2010 Asian Games when he played for the Indian team. He was won the PGTI four times, and finished in the top three on the Order of Merit for three straight years.

10. Aman Raj

An Indian golfer from Patna, Aman Raj is part of the Under-19 Indian Golf Team. Patna Golf Club named him Golfer of the Year at the age of 12, and the Indian Golf Union enlisted him as one of the Top Ranking Amateur Golfers at 15.
