The player who performs exceptionally well in the first season and eventually fades away slowly from the team is called a one-season wonder. It may be due to any reason or even injuries for that matter can decide the career of a player anywhere in the world.

1. Michael Bridges

Michael Bridges came on as a young striker for Sunderland eventually joining Leeds United in 1999 where he had an amazing first season with the club scoring 19 Premier League goals in his first season for the club.

He is a perfect example of a one-season wonder after scoring 19 goals in his first season, his career went on a downfall with Bridges only making 10 appearances for Leeds United in four seasons.

2. Edinaldo Batista Libânio (Grafite)

Edinaldo Batista Libânio also known as Grafite had a tremendous start to his Bundesliga career with Wolfsburg scoring eleven goals in 24 appearances. The following season he helped Wolfsburg to clinch the Bundesliga title scoring 28 goals in just 25 appearances for the club.

He formed a formidable partnership with young Edin Dzeko as the pair scored a combined total of 54 goals between them. Grafite was not able to replicate his wonderful performances after setting the bar so high and was sold subsequently.

3. Carlos Alberto

Brazilian footballer had his breakthrough season with Porto when they won the Champions League under Jose Mourinho. Alberto became a crucial part of the team starting every knockout stage match and helping the team win the Champions League.

His contribution in the team faded away as Jose Mournho left the club and the arrival of new manager meant that Alberto was out of favour and fell down the pecking order.

4. Benjani Mwaruwari

Benjani Mwaruwari is a Zimbabwean retired professional footballer who rose to fame with his 2007 spell with Premier league club Portsmouth where he scored 12 goals before January in 23 appearances before joining Manchester City in the winter transfer window.

Benjani moved to City but was not able to replicate his goal-scoring form in front of goal being able to find the net 3 times in 13 appearances for the club. He was sold by the club 2 years later as his performance detoriated.

5. Michael Ricketts

Michael Ricketts was an influential part of the Bolton Wanderers team helping them to secure promotion to the Premier League. He scored 12 goals in his first season in the Premier League in 37 appearances also earning his first-ever cap for England.

His goal contribution dropped significantly after that season and was never among the top-scorers in the League.

6. Vincent Janssen

Dutch International Vincent Janssen proved to be a stupid signing for Tottenham after a tremendous season with AZ Alkmaar scoring 31 goals in his first season with the club earning a move to the Premier League.

In his first season with Tottenham, he only manages to score 2 goals in a tough and pacey Premier League where he featured in 27 games unable to leave any kind of impression on the crown or manager. As a result, he was loaned out to Fenerbahce.

7. Saido Berahino

Saido Beranhino had a wonderful campaign with West Brom in 2-14 scoring 20 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions. He grew into the West Brom team and played every Premier League game for the club.

Tensions grew in the West Brom camp after his move to Tottenham was flushed down by the club. He came out and said he would never plau for the club again causing him his career which went downwards after that altercation.

8. Michu

Premier League club Swansea City discovered a gem in the face of Michu who scored a whopping 22 goals in his first campaign. His career faded immediately after that as he was soon forgotten and started playing in the fourth division of Spanish football.

9. DJ Campbell

DJ Campbell has travelled to every Premier League club and has played for most of them in his long career. His most noticeable contribution came with Blackpool where he scored 13 goals in 31 appearances for the club as they were relegated from the Premier League.

In the following season, he joined Queens Park Rangers and found the net only one time in 11 appearances for the club to see him feature in our list of best one season wonders in football.

10. Amr Zaki

Zaki had an exceptional start to his Premier League career scoring 10 goals in quick succession but his unprofessional attitude invited criticism as he was not trusted by the manager following series of altercations with the management.
