Who Was Randy Savage?

Randall Mario Poffo, better known by his ring moniker “Macho Man” Randy Savage was an American professional wrestler and baseball player best remembered for his stint in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW).

He was born in Columbus, Ohio, on November 15, 1952. Judy and Angelo Poffo, who raised him in the Roman Catholic faith, are his parents. He graduated from Downers Grove North High School in Downers Grove, Illinois, after attending Grover Cleveland Middle School.

Randy Savage has had two marriages. Elizabeth Hulette, often known as “Miss Elizabeth,” was his first wife. They worked together in the pro wrestling industry, with Elizabeth as his valet on screen. Savage married Barbara Lynn Payne in May 2010.

Randy Savage, who was 58 years old at the time, died of a heart attack while driving his wife Barbara in Seminole, Florida, on May 20, 2011. He was chosen as one of Time Magazine’s People of the Year. In 2015, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

His Career

Savage began playing minor league baseball when he was 18 years old. In four minor league seasons, he batted 254 with 16 home runs and 129 RBIs in 289 games.

During his 32-year career as a wrestler, Savage has had 29 championship reigns and won 11 belts, including two as WWF World Heavyweight Champion and four as WCW World Heavyweight Champion. He was a one-time WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion, and WWE ranked him the best titleholder of all time.

Savage won the World World Championship Wrestling Federation’s King of the Ring in 1987 and the World Championship Wrestling Federation’s World War 3 in 1995.  Throughout his career, he featured several pay-per-view events, including WrestleMania IV, V, and VIII, four of the first five Summer Slam shows, and 1995 Starrcade.

In 1996, he was inducted into the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame, and in 2015, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame posthumously.

In the mid-to-late 1990s, Savage appeared in several television shows, films and video games.
