Asia Cup 2023 victory marked India’s eighth Asia Cup title, and it was achieved through a dominant performance that showcased the team’s preparation for the upcoming World Cup.
Since taking over from Ravi Shastri as the head coach of the Indian cricket team in November 2021, Rahul Dravid has made a significant impact on the team’s performance.
In Test cricket, India has won five series with just two losses. In the ODIs, India has won eight series and suffered four losses, while in T20Is, they have won 13 series with only one loss under his guidance.
The team’s performance in bilateral series has been exceptional with series wins against New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, Sri Lanka, England, and Australia.

However, when it comes to ICC tournaments, Dravid faced some challenges. The T20 World Cups in 2021 and 2022 didn’t yield the desired results, as India failed to reach the semifinals.ย
Dravid earns an annual income of INR 12 crores from his current stint as Team India head coach under the Board of Control for Cricket in India. He signed a 2-year contract with the Indian team after Ravi Shastri stepped down, following the conclusion of the 2021 T20 World Cup and his contract ends after the conclusion of the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Format | Wins | Losses | Draws/Ties/NR |
---|---|---|---|
Test | 9 | 5 | 3 |
ODI | 27 | 12 | 3 |
T20I | 42 | 15 | 4 |
Additionally, the ICC World Test Championship Final in 2023 ended in defeat against Australia. It wasn’t until the Asia Cup in 2023 that Dravid finally secured his first trophy as India’s coach.
Before assuming the role of the head coach, Rahul Dravid had already showcased his coaching prowess with the Indian U-19 and India A teams.
His mentorship led the U-19 team to a runner-up finish in the 2016 U-19 Cricket World Cup and a triumphant victory in the 2018 edition.
Dravid is also credited with nurturing young talents such as Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, and Washington Sundar.
Dravid’s contributions extended beyond the field. He served as a mentor for Indian T20 League franchises Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals before his appointment as head coach.ย
His work at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) was particularly commendable, where he focused on improving player fitness and rehabilitation programs.
