The Professional Darts Corporation held the inaugural edition of the PalmerBet Queensland Darts Masters in 2022, which served as the fourth entry in that year’s World Series of Darts. The competition took place from August 12–13, 2022, at the Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre in Townsville, Australia, and included 16 players including eight ‘elite’ PDC professionals and eight regional qualifiers.
2022 Queensland Darts Masters Final Day Results, Fixtures And Score
In the championship match, the world No. 3 came back from a 4-1 deficit as Price sought to avenge his loss to the Dutchman at the World Matchplay in Blackpool earlier this month. Van Gerwen initially struggled with his finishing, missing 10 straight attempts at a double until finding his stroke and winning three successive legs, including a 140 finish in leg seven, to tie the match at 4-4. Price had appeared to be in control of the final. Welshman Price once more moved a leg ahead at 5-4 before van Gerwen had checkouts of 112 and 77 to move 7-5 ahead. Before taking out a 58 finish for an 11-dart leg, van Gerwen blasted 140, 180, and 123 darts to finish the game in fine fashion.
Price had earlier demonstrated class by ending Gordon Mathers’ dreams of competing in the semi-final. The Welsh great scored two ton plus checkouts as he built a comfortable 6-0 lead. Mathers did manage to win a leg to bring the score to 6-1, but Price then won with a 7-1 victory after throwing six darts in a row perfectly. In the other semifinal, Van Gerwen and Joe Cullen faced off, with MVG defeating the Englishman 7-5 in a graceful contest.
Simon Whitlock’s chances of making the quarterfinals were similarly eliminated by Price. Whitlock had taken a 3-2 lead, giving the Townsville crowd hope of an all-Australian semi-final, but Price stepped up his game to win four straight legs and win the match 6-3.
