PUMA X Borussia Dortmund 2023/24 new home kit design
The new home kit design was made with a collaboration between Borussia Dortmund and PUMA. The two allowed the club’s supporters to customize their new home shirt. It all started last year when the team held a design competition, which allowed both designers and fans to participate. After receiving over 15,000 applications, a panel consisting of captain Marco Reus and BVB veteran Dede, chose nine ideas for the final round.
The fans of the club then voted for their favourite design online. The winning design was made by Timo R., a Marl-based BVB supporter. Timo R. stated that the jersey design was something distinctly BVB and embodies the team’s identity and legacy.
Signal Iduna Park, which is Borussia Dortmund’s home stadium, serves as the inspiration for the front graphic design on the new Borussia Dortmund 23/24 home kit. The new kit features its traditional primarily yellow color with the image depicting one of the stadium’s pylons in outline.
Meanwhile, the Yellow Wall, which is the largest standing terrace in Europe, is a famous feature of the stadium. It is commonly called the Westfalenstadion, and the image on the shirt also depicts a structure made of coal featuring diagonal black stripes. This structure refers to Dortmund’s location in the Ruhr region, which was once popular for its significant coal industry.
The sponsor mark located on the front of the shirt, and the PUMA emblem located on the right chest are both black like the shirt’s collar and cuffs. The club crest is located on the left chest and features four stars to signify the team’s eight Bundesliga championships. The new shirt comes with black shorts and yellow socks.
“A rewarding experience”
Following the release of the new kit design, PUMA’s Senior Head of Product Line Management, Marco Mueller, revealed his thoughts on the latest collab stating:
Collaborating with BVB on this fan-designed kit has been a rewarding experience. Their fans are extraordinary, and we were delighted to create this opportunity for them.”
The collab also serves as a milestone in the club’s history, as it marks the first time that supporters have personally contributed to creating the team’s new uniform. It also shows how much BVB cherishes its supporters and the club as a whole.
