Why fans are hyping PSG’s mid-season friendly tour in Saudi Arabia?
After weeks of rumors, it was officially announced on Friday night that Ronaldo, a five-time winner of the Ballon d’Or, has joined Saudi Arabian team Al-Nassr. With Ronaldo’s most recent transfer, some supporters were let down since they had hoped to continue watching him compete at the highest level. The 37-year-move old’s to a major Champions League club never happened, so he continued his illustrious career in the Middle East.
According to reports, Ronaldo decided on a contract with a sizable wage after his second spell in English football came to a painful end. In response to his explosive tell-all interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo’s contract with Manchester United was unilaterally terminated last month, and he left the club.
Fans may, however, have a thrilling development to anticipate. According to rumors, Paris Saint-Germain will visit Saudi Arabia for a midseason friendly in January. PSG will likely face an eleven-player team made up of players from Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal. Meaning that since the Argentine legend is presently playing for the Parisian club, fans could be in for another Ronaldo vs. Messi matchup.
As things stand, the Argentina international has clashed with the Portugal international on 36 occasions, and there is now set to be a 37th encounter as PSG take on a combined Al-Nassr/Al-Hilal team in the Riyadh Season Cup in 2023.
The French giants were supposed to play against the combined XI of Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal many months ago, although the fixture was postponed due to France’s world cup preparations. Now, however, that delay has allowed the Riyadh Season Cup clash to involve one more meeting between Messi and Ronaldo, as PSG are contractually obligated to fulfil the fixture but an exact date is yet to be decided, although Messi is expected to face off against Ronaldo sometime in January, 2023 with some reports claiming its 19 January.
While the match time isn’t known, matches in the Saudi Pro League are played at 3:00pm and 5:00pm GMT or 8:30pm IST and 11:00pm IST on match days.
Will fans get to watch Ronaldo vs. Messi?
In their ongoing competition to be the greatest player of all time, Messi and Ronaldo have frequently shared the stage. After leading Argentina to World Cup victory in Qatar, many fans are sure that Messi is now the undisputed GOAT. While all was going on, Ronaldo witnessed his World Cup dream come to an end as Portugal was eliminated by Morocco in the quarterfinals.
Despite the hype regarding friendly featuring Ronaldo vs. Messi, many fear the same won’t materialize since Messi is on break after winning the World Cup. Elsewhere, Ronaldo’s participation is also in doubt as he is yet to join his new team.
