Game Details:

El Sherbini has won the women’s PSA World Championship for the sixth time in her career after defeating World No. 1 Gohar 7-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-7 in 56 minutes. With her victory, she moves into the second position on the all-time women’s winners list. Behind only Malaysian legend Nicol David, who has a record eight World Championship victories.

The Alexandria-born player used all of her characteristic precision and expertise to fight back from a one-game deficit in her first competition since retiring from the CIB Black Ball Open final due to injury in March, also against Gohar.

Highlights:

Meanwhile, Farag won his third PSA World Championship after rallying from a 2-1 deficit to defeat 2017 World Champion ElShorbagy 9-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-9, 11-2 in 74 minutes.

Both players were pushed through grueling five-game bouts in their semi-final matchups, but they came back strong to put on a display for the sold-out Cairo audience. However, it was Farag who reached top gear in the fifth game to win, as World No. 3 ElShorbagy appeared to be tired in the closing moments.

As a consequence, Farag will replace Paul Coll of New Zealand as the World No. 1 in the men’s World Rankings in June.

Prize Pool:

The PSA World Championships are the most profitable in the sport this season, with a total prize pool of $1,100,000 split evenly between the men’s and women’s draws. And El Sherbini and Farag each took home $79,800.

The PSA World Tour will continue with the El Gouna International Platinum tournament. Which will host the finest players in the world from May 27 to June 3. SQUASHTV and numerous broadcasters across the world will stream the action live.
