The Premier League was created in 1992 when the First Division’s clubs left the Football League to form a new commercially autonomous league that negotiated its own broadcast and sponsorship deals. Originally, the Golden Glove could only be won by one player outright; in the event of a tie, the goalie with the better clean sheet-to-games ratio claimed the award. Starting in the 2013–14 season, goalkeepers with an identical amount of clean sheets share the Golden Glove, regardless of the number of games they played.
