After converting warrants in a promoter group business, an Adani Group company bought 29.18% of the Radhika and Prannoy Roy-owned New Delhi Television (NDTV).
In compliance with Sebi’s acquisition regulations, the business also disclosed an open bid to purchase an additional 26% of NDTV on Tuesday.

Who Is Prannoy Roy?
Prannoy Roy is a famous Indian journalist who is also an economist, chartered accountant, psephologist and author. He has recently been in the news because Adani Groups has recently brought a huge amount of stakes in his company NDTV.
On October 15, 1949, he was born in Calcutta, West Bengal. His father’s name is P. L. “Hurricane” Roy who was an executive at a multinational corporation.
He did his initial schooling at Dehradun’s The Doon School. Later, he relocated to London, United Kingdom, for further academic study. He had been given a scholarship by Haileybury and Imperial Service College to earn his A-level higher secondary diploma.
After finishing high school, Prannoy Roy enrolled in the Queen Mary University of London, where he earned a first-class economics degree in 1973. In 1975, he earned his chartered accountant certification and was inducted as a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
After this, he came to India back and went on to study at the Delhi School of Economics, where in 1978 he earned a PhD in agricultural economics.
He is married to another journalist Radhika Roy. They both have one daughter named Tara Roy.
He is currently 72 years old.
His Career
Prannoy Roy worked as a consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers India from 1979 to 1983 after receiving his degree. But soon after this, entered into journalism field.
In an effort to mainstream psephology in India, he started working with the Oxford political scientist David Butler and the Indian economist Ashok Lahiri in the 1980s. Three books were published through the partnership, and Roy was hired as an election analyst by the India Today magazine.
In 1984, he co-founded New Delhi Television Ltd (NDTV). In the meanwhile, he spent worked as an associate professor at the Delhi School of Economics in the year 1985.
Later on, he was employed with a group of economists from 1986–1987 to create the largest macro-econometric model of India for the Ministry of Finance.
Prannoy Roy began his career as a television journalist by covering the general election for Doordarshan before NDTV was finally hired by Doordarshan to cover the general election results and budget session specials.
He then started appearing as a news presenter on the show “The World This Week.” Later, the business also secured agreements to create programmes on Doordarshan, including “The News Hour” and “Good Morning India.”
For a long time, Prannoy Roy presided over the NDTV newscasts, and in the process, she rose to the position of the brand’s face.
