The Pokemon Company initially made the announcement to host the Pokemon UNITE Championship Series 2023 back in December 2021.

The Pokemon UNITE World Championship 2023 will be the last event in the global competitive circuit.

Pokemon UNITE is a popular strategic team battle game, featuring iconic Pokemon characters across 5v5 matches. The game was initially released in July 2021 for Nintendo Switch, following which it released for mobile devices later in September that same year.

Pokemon UNITE World Championship 2023 date and venue

The 2023 Pokémon UNITE World Championship will take place on August 11 and 12 in Yokohama, Japan.

Pokemon UNITE World Championship 2023 format

The upcoming tournament will have two stages – the group stage and the playoffs stage. Given below are the details of both the stages:

Group Stage

The Group Stage will begin with the 31 participating teams featuring seven groups with four teams each. One of those groups will have only three teams. The group stage will follow a single round-robin bracket format with a best-of-3 series. Following the end of this round, the top teams from each group will then qualify for the Playoffs stage.

Playoffs Stage

The Playoffs stage will have a double-elimination format with all matches following a best-of-3 series. Meanwhile, the Grand Finals will follow a best-of-5 series along with a bracket reset.

Pokemon UNITE World Championship 2023 qualified teams and groups

The upcoming competition will feature the best teams from across six regional zones:

  • Brazil
  • Europe
  • Latin America – North
  • Latin America – South
  • North America
  • Oceania

Ahead of the competition, the teams with the highest CP in their own regional zones qualified. Alongside them, the teams that won the Regional Finals in each region also earned an invitation to join. Given below are the different groups and the 31 participating teams in the upcoming competition:
