Repeating the same, Google recently honoured Balamani Amma, the grandmother of Malayalam literature, with her own Google Doodle on July 19, 2022, on the occasion of her 113th birthday. The artist behind the doodle is Devika Ramachandran.

By putting her on top of the search section, they paid a passionate homage to the renowned Indian poet. In the doodle, she is shown composing poetry while sitting on her verandah and wearing a white saree.

Who Was Balamani Amma?
Balamani Amma was a renowned Indian poet who was known for her work in the Malayalam language. She has been in the news as Google published its most recent doodle in her memory.
On July 19, 1909, Nalapat Balamani Amma was born in British India’s Palapat, Punnayurkulam, Ponnani Taluk in the Malabar District of Madras Presidency in British India. Her parents’ names are Chittanjoor Kunhunni Raja and Nalapat Kochukutti Amma.
She received no formal schooling, but her maternal uncle’s guidance and his library of books helped her develop as a poet.
At the age of 19, Balamani Amma married V.M. Nair, and together they had four children named Kamala Surayya, Sulochana, Mohandas, and Shyam Sunder. She later shifted to Kolkata.
She was the winner of several honours and accolades, including the Ezhuthachan Award, Sahitya Akademi Award, Padma Bhushan, and Saraswati Samman. She died in 2005 aged 94.
Her Career
More than 20 poetry anthologies, several prose works, and translations were all written by Balamani Amma. After having her debut poem, “Kooppukai,” published in 1930, she went on to write several poems that won awards.

Death Cause Of Balamani Amma
After suffering from Alzheimer’s for five years, Amma passed away on September 29, 2004. She was 95 years old when she passed away.
