Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had tested positive for Covid-19 right before the commencement of the Africa Cup of Nations and has now suffered heart problems

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had recently turned up to training ahead of Gabon’s Africa Cup of Nations game against Ghana on Friday. But he was forced to miss the fixture after medical examinations displayed signs of suspected heart problems.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Health Update And News: Striker Suffers Heart Problems After Getting COVID

The striker recently recovered from Covid-19 and was looking to get back to action against Ghana but the medical scans conducted by the Confederation of African Football (CAFI) revealed that Aubameyang is not fit to play as of now. Gabon’s Axel Meye and Mario Lemina are the two other players who have been left out of the squad for the very same reason.

Here’s what the Gabon Federation had to say about Aubameyang’s condition in their statement, “As per the CAF medical commission, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Axel Meye and Mario Lemina, who just returned from Covid, cannot take part in the match against Ghana.”

The Federation also went on to include that the examinations showed cardiac lesions and the CAF did not want to take any risks. However, the Gabon Federation is of the view that the diagnosis is not that serious.

Aubameyang Return Date

It seems that Aubameyang’s future at the African Cup of Nations now looks uncertain and we can only expect to see him making a return to the football pitch once his health situation has been completely monitored. As of now, his exact return date cannot be determined but he might be back for the next match after fresh medical tests. AFCON is looking to bring the self-isolation period for players who have vaccinated themselves to five days after a barrage of cases.

The Arsenal striker had tested positive for Covid at an airport, right after he landed in Cameroon last week. He was put into isolation and remained absent for Gabon’s first game in the African Cup of Nations which resulted in a 1-0 victory over Comoros.
