Phulera means ‘flower’. It has been believed that Lord Krishna plays with flowers and loves to enjoy seeing them. On this festival, followers of Hinduism play Holi with Lord Krishna with colorful flowers.
Story of Phulera Dooj
It has been believed that Lord Krishna was busy with his work for a long time. Because of his work, Lord Krishna was not able to meet Radha. Because of not meeting Krishna, Radha was unhappy and this had an impact on nature’s beauty.
Lord Krishna after seeing the degrading condition of nature decided to meet Radha Rani and this removed her sorrow. When Lord Krishna met Radha Rani, she was pleased and all flowers as well as greenery were back in nature.
Shri Krishna plucked a beautiful flower and threw it on Radha. After that, Radha also started throwing flowers at Lord Krishna. Then the gopis too began throwing flowers at each other. Holi of the flowers started from there. All this happened on the second day of Shukla Paksha of the Falgun month. Since then this date is celebrated as a festival called Phulera Dooj.
