Coutinho Signs for Aston Villa: Contract, Salary and All
An outcast in Barcelona Phillipe Coutinho has made a permanent comeback to the Premier League after agreeing to take a wage cut to join Aston Villa for £17 million. Philippe Coutinho has agreed to a pay cut to join Aston Villa on a permanent basis.
Philippe Coutinho’s £17 million transfer to Aston Villa was completed Friday night, as the Brazilian agreed to a 70% wage cut to secure a permanent move to Villa Park.
Since his arrival in the Midlands in January, the former Liverpool star has been on fire. After leaving Barcelona on loan, Coutinho has scored four goals and added three assists in just 16 Premier League outings.
The original deal between the two sides included a £33 million clause for Villa to sign Coutinho on a permanent basis, but there were doubts about whether a deal could be reached due to Coutinho’s lucrative £480,000-per-week contract signed when he was lured to the Nou Camp in a record £142 million deal in January 2018. Coutinho, on the other hand, has agreed to take a massive pay cut – more than 70% – in order to fit into Villa’s wage structure.
The midfield maestro has agreed to a four-year contract worth £125,000 per week with Villa, who were able to negotiate a lower fee due to Barcelona’s desperate need to offload Coutinho’s bloated salary. His net worth stands at $65 million.
