Why Philippe Coutinho might leave Aston Villa?

According to Fabrizio Romano, Coutinho has agreed to terms with Qatari team Al-Duhail, but Aston Villa hasn’t approved the transfer yet. Notably, the Brazilian player came on loan from Barcelona in the middle of the 2021–22 campaign before committing to a permanent contract ahead of the 2022–23 season. However, the 31-year-old struggled with form and injuries even as Villa secured a spot in the UEFA Europa Conference League, scoring just one goal in his last 22 games.

On 20 August, while playing against Everton at Villa Park, Coutinho left the pitch due to a serious injury. Villa eventually won the game 4-0. The fact that he was left off the playing roster for the Europa Conference League Cup play-off match against Hibernian was one of the first indications of his impending departure. In 41 Premier League games for Aston Villa, Coutinho has contributed six goals and three assists.

How much will Coutinho earn after joining Al-Duhail?

According to reports, the Qatari club will pay less than $21.5 million to acquire Coutinho. This number relates to the fact that Barcelona will lose money on the sell-on clause they had on Coutinho. If the transfer is approved, the former Barcelona star may earn a minimum yearly salary of between $10 Million – $14 Million based on his pay at the Birmingham-based club. Philippe Coutinho wasn’t frequently used by Villa manager Unai Emery during his most recent tenure.

Despite the fact that the player and Al-Duhail have reached an agreement, Aston Villa have showed reluctance to approve this since they won’t like to lose one of their most seasoned players. The team spent €20 million on him last year, and while any amount from Qatar may easily allow them to cover their costs, the transfer may occur too late in the window for them to find a replacement.
