With ten minutes remaining, Foden finished calmly and struck a shot into the top corner to draw City even and guarantee that they would not lose the championship.

Meanwhile, when he played against Brentford in the Premier League last month, he invented a brand-new celebration. The player’s three goals gave City an easy 3-1 victory. Kneeling on the pitch, the City star performed the gun-like move with his hands after each of the three stunners.

The Brentford Community Stadium was the first Premier League venue to host Foden’s most recent addition to his repertoire of celebrations. However, fans have seen this celebration before. Yes. That appeared a lot like the celebration used by Edison Cavani when he played for teams like Manchester United, Napoli, Paris Saint-Germain, and Uruguay.

Kyle Walker reveals the meaning behind Phil Foden’s goal celebration

In a humorous post-match interview with Kyle Walker and Foden following the team’s triumph over the Red Devils, the cause of his goal celebration was disclosed. It all began when his teammates made fun of him for his desire to put in an effort on goal.

After their victory over Manchester United, Walker spoke with Sky Sports and disclosed that his teammate’s celebration stems from a nickname his Man City teammates gave him on the practice pitch. He stated (laughing) that they all call him “sniper” because “he likes to shoot.”

When asked the time since when they have been calling Foden with that nickname, Walker told:

Well, he’s been shooting since I’ve turned up, since 2017, he loves a shot! He puts the work in, he is always doing extra shooting. His goals are coming in, he is reaping the rewards and he needs to keep these standards up.”

Foden had previously disclosed about his celebration against Brentford, as per the Manchester Evening News he stated:

They say I shoot a lot in the five-a-side games. They call me the ‘Sniper.”

When questioned by the interviewer if that was the beginning of it all, Foden said:

Yeah, that’s the celebration.”

Earlier, via SPORTbible, Foden told:

It’s a bit of banter between me and the lads. They say I shoot a lot in the five-a-side games. They call me the sniper.”

As of this writing, the 23-year-old has netted 18 goals across all competitions, 11 of which have come in the Premier League.
