PDC World Cup of Darts 2022 Tournament Rules and Format

The first round will feature the top eight teams, with the second round featuring the remaining 24 teams. The tournament will be a knockout format, as it has been in past years. There were rumours that a new format, similar to the Premier League Darts in 2022, would be introduced, but that has been put on hold for at least another year.

The first round will include a best-of-nine-legs pairs match. In the meanwhile, the second round, quarter-finals, and semi-finals will all consist of two best-of-seven singles matches. If the scores are even, the winner will be decided by a best-of-seven legged doubles match.

Tickets for the event can be found here.

2022 PDC Darts World Cup Results, Score, Winner, Schedule, Draw, Teams, and Players

Wales’ first World Cup championship was won by Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton in 2020, and they reaffirmed their title credentials with a strong performance against Philippines’ Lourence Ilagan and RJ Escaros. At the Eissporthalle, the second seeds put on the best performance of the night, averaging just over 99 to set up an intriguing last 16 matchup against 2021 finalists Austria.

Following a scorching start, Price and Clayton were prepared to run riot, with Clayton following up a maximum from his fellow countryman by cleaning up 84 in two darts for an 11-dart opener. The Philippines’ Ilagan & Escaros rallied back to tie the match at two apiece, but Price’s finishes of 106 and 108, sandwiched between a 13-darter, saw them win convincingly 5-2.

After overcoming a valiant fightback from Finland’s Marko Kantele and Aki Paavilainen to advance, Price and Clayton will face last year’s runners-up, Mensur Suljovic and Rowby-John Rodriguez. With a whitewash win over Brazil’s Diogo Portela and Artur Valle, the Netherlands’ new-look duo of Danny Noppert and Dirk van Duijvenbode advanced to round two.
