As the hosts Germany made the ideal start to their campaign at the Eissporthalle, Australian duo Heta & Whitlock easily defeated Norman Madhoo & Sudesh Fitzgerald to sit at the top of Group-C. Twelve group stage matches were played on Thursday in the first night of the redesigned £450,000 competition, with Australia, the current champions, among the notable nations to prevail.

However, Danish rookie Reus delivered the show-stealing performance on the opening night, shocking 2021 runner-up Austria in Group-F with a stunning individual average of 114.7. With a convincing 4-1 victory over Northern Ireland’s Brendan Dolan & Daryl Gurney, the French pair of Jacques Labre & Thibault Tricole also had a perfect debut in Frankfurt.

On Thursday’s first night of group stage play, Belgium had the highest seed, and Dimitri Van den Bergh alongside Kim Huybrechts kicked off their campaign with a 4-0 thrashing of Finland. In their Group G opening against Portugal’s Jose de Sousa & Luis Ameixa, Krzysztof Ratajski powered Poland to a thrilling victory containing seven maximums.
