Sethi was supposed to be designated the new board chairman, but in recent weeks, there have been rumours that Zaka Ashraf, another former PCB chairman, may take over. Even though Ashraf has not received any formal news, Sethi will no longer be serving in that role.
Salaam everyone! I don’t want to be a bone of contention between Asif Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif. Such instability and uncertainty is not good for PCB. Under the circumstances I am not a candidate for Chairmanship of PCB. Good luck to all stakeholders.

The tweet also clarifies the long-running political situation with the chairman’s position. Usually, the Prime Minister will make a recommendation. Therefore, in this instance, it would be a representative chosen by Shehbaz Sharif and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) political party. Due to his affiliation with the Pakistan People’s Party, a coalition member in Pakistan’s present government, Ashraf enters the picture at this point. PPP believes they have their man in the head of PCB because they are in charge of sports in Pakistan.
After Ramiz Raja’s resignation as chairman, Sethi has been in charge of the PCB. Mickey Arthur was hired as the part-time director of cricket during his six-month tenure under management’s watch. The hosting of the Asia Cup and Pakistan’s involvement in the 2023 World Cup were two of the most notable events throughout the era. As Pakistan has not yet made an official announcement regarding their position towards World Cup participation, the latter will continue to be a major concern for the incoming chairman.

Because Najam was seen by the authorities as offender, they took the licence in his wife’s name. His wife wanted to publish an entertainment section with images from events like weddings and parties.
He didn’t want to print his magazine during General Zia ul Haq’s dictatorship, therefore even though their licence was obtained in 1987, he didn’t publish his first issue until 1989.
He and his wife co-founded The Friday Times, an English weekly, in 1989. He was detained in 1999 on suspicion of betraying his nation but was eventually freed by the Pakistani Supreme Court.
He established the Daily Times of Pakistan in 2002, rose to the post of editor, and held it until 2009 ad served as The Economist’s Pakistan reporter from 1990 to 2008.

Later in 2008, after publishing an editorial cartoon depicting Umme Hassaan, the head of a girls’ school, pushing pupils to wear burqas and kidnap Chinese women, he started receiving death threats.
Because her husband Abdul Aziz Ghazi, a preacher at the Lal Masjid, was detained in connection with the abduction of six Chinese women who were purported to be prostitutes, many people believed that the caricature was a taunt directed at her.
On March 26, 2013, he was chosen to serve as the interim Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab. He was picked by the PPP (Pakistan Peoples Party), and the PML-N (Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz) opposition party also concurred on his name. On June 6, 2013, Shehbaz Sharif was named Chief Minister in his place. He resigned from that office on June 6.
On orders from the Islamabad High Court, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif nominated Najam as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board in 2013. Due to a charge being brought against the current chairman, Zaka Ashraf, he was appointed as the interim chairman.
Najam was one of the candidates shortlisted to lead the ICC as president in 2015. He stated in an interview from 2015 that Pakistani players ought to be let to compete in the IPL and that the PCB wants Indian players to play in the PSL.
He presided over AAP Media Media Network/Indus News until 2018. Following Imran Khan’s election as Pakistan’s new prime minister in the 2018 general election, Najam resigned as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board in 2018.
