Prior to his pay-cut, Paul Pogba was among the club’s highest earners alongside Dusan Vlahovic and Wojciech Szczesny.
Paul Pogba and his widely celebrated return to Juventus
Ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, the Frenchman arrived to Juventus for his second spell. Pogba arrived at the club with strong hopes of a career resurgence following a disappointing spell with Manchester United. He arrived at the club on a free transfer following a longstanding interest from “The Old Lady” especially with the hit of the #POGBACK phenomenon.
It was here at Turin that Pogba have initially developed as a superstar and Juventus were eager to see him succeed again. And more some time, the move seemed perfect as the club also needed a player of his caliber.
When Pogba joined, Juventus wrote:
Paul is back in Turin. He left as a boy and returns as a man and a champion, but there is one thing that has not changed – the desire to write unforgettable pages of club history together once more.”
“Pogba is back and we couldn’t be happier.”
However, things turned sour following a debut campaign filled with injuries. Moreover, he managed to record only a single goal contribution across 161 minutes of action. And now, his 2023/24 is already off to a bad start following his recent doping test scandal. Aside from a contract cancellation, reports indicate that Juventus have also drastically slashed Pogba’s wages.
Paul Pogba fails second drug test
Last month on September 11, Juventus provisionally suspended Pogba after he returned from a doping test with unusually high levels of testosterone. The test took place just after the team’s Serie A victory against Udinese back in August. The Frenchman then requested for a second analysis in the hopes of clearing his name by citing an error. However, the secondary analysis also came back positive following which Pogba now faces a possible four-year ban. Alongside that, Juventus could also cancel his contract with the team.
Paul Pogba new wages after failed doping test revealed
Juventus have enforced a pay-cut on Paul Pogba after he failed the two tests and separated him from the rest of the Juventus first-team squad. Moreover he is unable to communicate with any members of the club staff. His new wages after the pay cut stands at a measly €42,177 per year as compared to his €10m per year earlier.
The new amount comes as such, since Juve only have to pay Pogba with the minimum wage after his suspension. The particular clause is clearly laid out in the Collective Agreement with the Italian Association of Footballers. Notably, Pogba, signed as one of Juve’s highest-paid players as a free agent two summers ago.
With Pogba reportedly admitting to club doctors that he had taken a substance that they had not signed off, Juventus are considering terminating the midfielder’s €10 million-per-year (£9m/$11m) contract – which runs to the summer of 2026 – in the event of a lengthy ban. Pogba has a current net worth of $125 million.
