Evra posted a picture of Messi, one he went onto caption by congratulating the Argentinian for winning another trophy. Evra had previously said he was sick and tired of Messi being handed the coveted prize every year.

While Messi’s Copa America triumph earlier this year makes him the outright favourite for the trophy as he ended his international drought, many believe Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski is the true recipient of the glistening trophy. Lewandowski has had an exceptional last couple of years both personally and on the team level with him clobbering records for fun.

The Polish player was denied of the trophy last year after the ceremony was cancelled in 2020 owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. And according to the latest reports, he’s bound to miss out on the award this year as well.
