Jack was a former senior pastor of The Church on the way in Van Nuys, California, one of a handful of flagship churches in the Foursquare denomination, and was the fourth President of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel.

Jack was well known for his involvement in the promise keepers movement and for being a prolific author and songwriter, with more than 600 hymns and choruses in his catalog. Williams is the author of the famous 1978 hymn “Majesty”, which has been rated as the top 100 hymns and he has performed and sung in churches globally. He died due to natural causes in his sleep.

Jack Hayford attended Life Pacific University and Oakland Technical High School. He was born to Jack Hayford Sr and Anita Dolores.

On July 4, 1954, Hayford married his college sweetheart, Anna Marie Smith and their marriage produced four children (Rebecca, Jack III, Mark, and Christa), 11 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. In early 2016, Anna was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, and died in 2017 after which he wed Valarie Hayford.

Jack Hayford professional career

In the 1990s, Jack established a Pentecostal seminary based in Los Angeles for training other pastors and he found The King’s College and Seminary. In 1999, he resigned as the senior pastor, The Church On The Way to focus on college. Jack briefly returned to help out the church through a difficult transition after his successor and son-in-law, Scott Bauer died suddenly. On the 4th of October 2004, Hayford was elected to a four-year term as president of the foursquare denomination, a position he chose not to pursue after that single term.

In 2013, he felt the need to shift the King’s University in Southlake, Texas under the stewardship of the Gateway Church. In 2015, The Church On The Way, led by senior pastor Tim Clark, honored Hayford with the title of Pastor Emeritus in recognition of his continuing contributions to church management and oversight.

In 2014, Hayford was inducted in the National Religious Broadcasters Hall of Fame where Jack was the winner of the Gospel Music Association’s Dove Award for his part in the album God With Us and the Salvation Army’s William Booth Award, as well as serving as Worship Leader on the Men In Worship album.

The Beauty of Spiritual Language, The Power of Praying Together, Rebuilding The Real You: The Definitive, Penetrating The Darkness, Pursuing The Will of God, Key to Everything, Praise in The Presence of God, The Divine Visitor, Moments With Majesty, and A Passion For Fullness are all books he wrote.

Hayford has also written a range of study guides which include Explaining The Trinity, New Spirit-Filled Life Bible NIV, Life-Giving Leadership Study Guide, and Life in the Kingdom Study Guide.
