Spain’s Rafael Nadal, a two-time Olympic champion, will team up with reigning Wimbledon and French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz in what promises to be an eagerly anticipated doubles pairing. Great Britain’s Andy Murray, the only player to win consecutive Olympic golds in singles, will also bid farewell to the Olympics as he competes in his fifth and final Games.
Alexander Zverev, the defending men’s singles champion from Germany, aims to replicate Murray’s back-to-back gold success after his gold medal win three years ago. Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, one of the greatest players ever, will be driven to secure the missing gold in his illustrious career. Swiss legend Stan Wawrinka, the 2008 Beijing doubles champion, returns to the Olympics after a 12-year hiatus, making his comeback at the age of 39.
With defending women’s singles champion Belinda Bencic of Switzerland not qualifying for Paris, a new gold medalist will emerge at Roland Garros. Among the favorites is world number two Coco Gauff from the USA, who missed Tokyo 2020 and is eager to make her mark on clay. Japanese star Naomi Osaka, determined to achieve Olympic success after falling short at her home Games in 2021, also returns with high hopes.
