Surfing at the 2024 Summer Olympics will be held from 27 July to 5 August in Teahupoʻo reef pass, Tahiti, French Polynesia, setting a new record for the farthest distance from the host city for a medal competition. The event will feature 48 surfers, with 24 athletes each in the men’s and women’s shortboard competitions, marking an increase of eight competitors compared to the Tokyo 2020 Games.

In the Men’s Surfing Shortboard Round of 16, Alonso Correa of Peru defeated Jordy Smith of South Africa with a score of 15.00 to 12.20. Japan’s Reo Inaba triumphed over Brazil’s Filipe Toledo with a score of 6.00 to 2.46. Kauli Vaast from France edged out Griffin Colapinto of the USA, scoring 15.10 to 13.83. Another French surfer, Joan Duru, outperformed Alan Cleland of Mexico with an impressive score of 18.13 to 15.17.
In the Men’s Surfing Shortboard Quarterfinals, Alonso Correa from Peru will face Reo Inaba from Japan. The French surfers Kauli Vaast and Joan Duru will compete against each other, while the Brazilian match-up features Gabriel Medina against João Chianca. Lastly, the Australian surfers Jack Robinson and Ethan Ewing will go head-to-head.
