In the women’s competition, Simone Biles will lead a slightly depleted USA squad, impacted by injuries to two-time World team champions Shilese Jones and Skye Blakely. However, experts remain confident that Team USA will secure their fourth Olympic team title without much trouble. Meanwhile, Italy, Brazil, France, and China will be hopeful of a podium finish.
In the women’s individual event, Biles will face tough competition from several top gymnasts. Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade, the 2022 world all-around champion and Tokyo runner-up, American Suni Lee, the reigning Olympic all-around champion, China’s Qiu Qiyuan, the world uneven bars champion, and Algeria’s Kaylia Nemour, who clinched three consecutive uneven bars titles at World Cup events earlier this year, are all poised to challenge her dominance.
In the men’s competition, the spotlight will be on powerhouses Japan and China. At last year’s World Championships, Japan claimed the team gold while several of China’s top competitors were at home for the Asian Games. Japan’s last Olympic team title came in Rio 2016, while China triumphed at Beijing 2008 and London 2012. The United States, Ukraine, and Great Britain are also expected to vie for the bronze medal.
