In Paris, 16 men and 16 women, known as “B-Boys” and “B-Girls,” will compete in an electrifying tournament, where each battle will showcase a best-of-three one-on-one showdown, with routines lasting approximately one minute. A panel of nine judges will assess performances based on six criteria: creativity, personality, technique, variety, performativity, and musicality.
Creativity and performativity will have the most impact, collectively accounting for 60% of the score, while the remaining 40% will reflect the other criteria. La Concorde, the venue dedicated to urban sports at the Paris Olympics, will host these groundbreaking battles. With a DJ setting the pace, athletes will captivate the judges with their improvisation and style, all set against the iconic backdrop of the Champs-Élysées.
In the men’s competition, USA star Victor Montalvo stands as a leading gold-medal contender. He made history as the first American to qualify for the Olympics in breaking by winning the 2023 WDSF Breaking World Championship. American Jeffrey Louis (B-Boy Jeffro), who secured his spot in June, is also a strong medal hopeful. For the women, Sunny Choi (B-Girl Sunny) made history as the first USA woman to earn an Olympic berth last year.
