India is set to commence their track and field campaign at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Thursday, August 1. Leading the charge will be Neeraj Chopra, with hopes pinned on him to secure a Gold medal, while Avinash Sable aims to deliver another personal best performance. India will field a 29-member contingent at the Games, with 11 participants in relay events. Parul Chaudhary, who claimed Gold in the 5000m and Silver in the women’s 3000m steeplechase at the Asian Games, will be the only athlete competing in two events in Paris. For the first time, India will have two representatives in the men’s javelin event, with Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Jena competing in the qualification round on August 6.
Jeswin Aldrin, who achieved a personal best of 8.42m in Bellary last year, will be a strong contender for a medal if he approaches that mark. However, his season best has been 7.99m, recorded in May. In addition, women’s 100m hurdler Jyoti Yarraji, who won silver at the Asian Games last year, will be a key athlete.
Additionally, the relay teams, experienced shot putter Tajinder Pal Singh Toor, and javelin thrower Annu Rani will also be in the spotlight as India aims for a memorable performance in track and field at the Paris Olympics.
