Plenty of hate peddled towards Hasan Ali after his dropped catch in the Pakistan vs Australia T20 World Cup 2021 semi-final was due to him being a shia Muslim

For a country whose ministers and cricketers were reveling in the triumph of Islam over Hinduism when Pakistan defeated India in the T20 World Cup 2021, Pakistanis didn’t even spare their own when the country was defeated by Australia.

Trounced by Matthew Wade who quashed Shaheen Shah Afridi who three successive sixes in the 19th over, Pakistan ended up packing their bags and heading for the exit door. However, despite Afridi being the main man to blame for the country’s exit, the magnitude of the hate was directed at Hasan Ali who had dropped Wade.

The unbridled outburst against Hasan was a further testament to the hate which Pakistan harbors as a country. Despite belonging from the same religion, Hasan was singled out for unabated abuse owing to him belonging from the shia community with users ensuring they specially mentioned that.

The likes of Virat Kohli and India’s left-leaning society are yet to comment on the abhorrent abuse which Hasan has had to face since Thursday night. Unlike the brouhaha which had erupted over Shami being abused online, one which was later identified to have emanated from Pakistan, India’s bemusing seculars have refused to throw their weight behind Hasan.
