Ahead of the HBL PSL 2025 Players Draft on January 11, all six franchises have announced their player retentions. Each team was allowed to retain up to eight players, with three teams—Karachi Kings, Multan Sultans, and Peshawar Zalmi—retaining seven players, while the other franchises made full use of their retention slots. Defending champions Islamabad United retained key players including their captain Shadab Khan, who was the Player of the Tournament in 2024, and star fast bowler Naseem Shah.

Pakistan Super League 2025: drafts schedule and players list

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 players’ draft will take place on January 11, 2025, in Gwadar, Balochistan but the time isn’t known yet. A total of 87 local players have renewed their categories ahead of the draft, with some notable promotions. Hasan Ali (Karachi Kings), Mohammad Amir (Quetta Gladiators), Saim Ayub (Peshawar Zalmi), and Usama Mir (Multan Sultans) have been moved up to the Platinum category from Diamond.

Several high-profile players, including Imad Wasim, Naseem Shah, Shadab Khan (Islamabad United), Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Shaheen Shah Afridi (Lahore Qalandars), Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Rizwan (Multan Sultans), and Babar Azam (Peshawar Zalmi), have retained their spots in the Platinum category. The Diamond category includes 16 players, with Quetta Gladiators and Multan Sultans having four each.

In the Gold category, 30 players are listed, with Peshawar Zalmi having the most, followed by Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, and Quetta Gladiators. The Silver category consists of 16 players, while the Emerging category features 12 players. Franchises have until January 4, 2025, to announce their retained players. Additionally, foreign players who weren’t picked up in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction have registered for the PSL Draft.

International stars such as Tim Southee, Usman Khawaja, David Willey, Sikandar Raza, and Dawid Malan have joined the list of foreign players for the PSL, which is set to take place between April and May 2025. The draft pick order for the PSL 2025 has also been revealed, setting the stage for a thrilling and competitive selection process. With a mix of exciting local and international talent, the PSL 2025 promises to be a memorable season for cricket fans.
