Negotiations between players and management, spanning months, finally culminated in a deal that addressed the primary concern of sharing the ICC’s revenue.

The new contract not only saw a substantial increase in monthly retainers but also marked a considerable uptick in match fees.

In this new era of Pakistani cricket, the highest-paid players find themselves in ‘Category A,’ witnessing a staggering 200% increase in their monthly retainers.

This elite group includes the likes of Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi. Babar Azam, currently the highest-paid cricketer from Pakistan, now commands a monthly retainer of 4.5 million Pakistani rupees, a significant jump from the previous $4,700.

The ripple effect extends to other categories, with ‘Category B’ players such as Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Imam-ul-Haq, and Mohammad Nawaz enjoying a monthly retainer of $10,000.

‘Category C’ and ‘D’ players, including Imad Wasim, Abdullah Shafique, and several others, receive remunerations ranging from $6,000 to $1,700 per month.

This move by the PCB not only seeks to keep the top players financially motivated but also shields them from the temptation of other year-round T20 leagues.

The salary adjustments bring Pakistani cricketers closer to their international counterparts, although they still lag behind due to their absence from the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL).

In comparison, the wealthiest cricket board, BCCI, pays Indian players substantially more.

The A+ grade players in India, such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja, earn a staggering Rs 7 crore per year, almost six times more than the top Pakistani players under the new contracts.
