On Sunday, July 10th, 2022, the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and deferation announced that they have dropped their country’s badminton team from Country’s contingent for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022
As they made the announcement, they also cited that the country’s shuttlers team won’t win any medals in the quadrennial event. Earlier, they named a 4-member badminton team including Tokyo Olympian Mahoor Shahzad, Ghazala Siddique, Murad Ali, and Irfan Saeed for the Commonwealth Games of 2022.

The announcement came after these members were called for a training camp in Lahore. According to reports, the country’s team even have procured their visas.
According to a statement by President of Pakistan Badminton Federation (PBF), Wajid Ali, “The PSB organised a 15-day training camp for Pakistan’s badminton team in Lahore for the Games.
Moreover, all the four players and their coach had obtained their accreditation card as well as visas and were all set to leave for Birmingham. But the PSB has decided to exclude badminton, reportedly on the pretext that the squad has no chance of winning medals”.
According to the local media, the PBF has contacted the PSB to request them to overturn the decision but the top body PSB is yet to reply to their request.
Olympian Mahoor Shahzad took to her social media account to express her grief and displeasure at the situation.
She wrote via her Twitter account, “With utmost anguish I have to inform you all that the Pakistan Badminton Team selected for the Commonwealth Games 2022 has been dropped by the PSB. It’s quite unfair on the part of the PSB to isolate the only sport at the last moment when everything was finalised”.
The 25-years-old badminton player also attached a picture in her tweet. In the picture it was clearly seen that there will be no badminton players in the Commonwealth Games 2022 whether it’s Men’s category or Women’s category.
