A tournament will follow each qualifying round. The first and third tournaments will be regional competitions, while the second and fourth will have teams from both regions competing against each other (barring any COVID issues).
The Countdown Cup competition will also serve as a qualifier for the postseason at the end of the season. Of course, the end-of-year playoffs are envisioned as a worldwide tournament including the best clubs from both zones.
The addition of a new map mode, push, is one of the key improvements for 2022. In addition to the escort, control, and hybrid maps, it will replace the assault map mode. There will be two new maps in the push model, but there will also be new maps in a handful of the other map variants.
This is the map pool for 2022:
Control: Ilios, Lijiang Tower, Oasis
Push: Colosseo (Rome), New Queen Street (Toronto)
Hybrid: Eichenwalde, King’s Row, Midtown (New York)
Escort: Circuit Royal (Monte Carlo), Dorado, Route 66, Watchpoint: Gibraltar
Players will have a chance to play the newest Overwatch hero, Sojourn.
