By overcoming fellow countrywoman Niemeier in three sets in the second quarterfinal match in the bottom half of the women’s singles draw, Tatjana Maria continued her Cinderella run. Niemeier won the set by outscoring her opponent three to one. She won the second set 6-2 by taking advantage of 71 per cent of Niemeier’s second serves and 12 of her 15 attempts at the net. When Niemeier lost concentration when serving with a 5-3 lead, she gave her opponent three break points. Maria scored in the second to equalise the game. When serving to stay in the match at 6-5, 15-40 down, Niemeier made a serve and volley error, which allowed Maria to advance to her first Major semifinal in her 46th Grand Slam attempt.
