Olivier Giroud Signs Contract Extension At Chelsea, Summer Exit Continues To Loom

Giroud has in an unprecedented move committed to stay at Chelsea for another year after signing a new contract in April

Friday emerged as an extremely hectic and busy day for Chelsea. After announcing that manager Thomas Tuchel had signed a new contract, one which would keep him at the club till 2024, the club has now gone onto reveal that Olivier Giroud has extended his stay as well.

Giroud Signs New Chelsea Contract Till 2022

The club in a statement released on Friday evening went onto talk about the extension which would keep the Frenchman at the club based out of London till 2022. The one year extension was offered to Giroud during the tailend of the 2020-21 season with the striker agreeing to terms in April.

The new deal for the striker however does little to assuage talks of Giroud switching to greener pastures. Left on the sidelines by Thomas Tuchel with the German clearly preferring Timo Werner upfront, Giroud is said to be scouring for new destinations as he approaches the backend of his career.

The striker was recently linked to Italian side AC Milan. However, anything is yet to materialise between the Serie A team and Giroud.

Fikayo Tomori To Join AC Milan

AC Milan have meanwhile triggered a 28.5 million pound clause in Fikayo Tomori’s deal, one which will see the club sign the defender from Chelsea. The CB had previously spent the last six months at the club after having joined on loan in January.

Thiago Silva Signs One Year Extension At Chelsea

A flurry of action on Friday also saw Thiago Silva commit to another year at Chelsea. The Brazilian who had joined the Premier League side on a free in 2020 took little time to establish himself in the club’s setup under both Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel’s previous understanding with Silva during the duo’s time at PSG is also set to have played a major part in persuading Silva to stay at Chelsea. Tuchel and Silva made up for their Champions League final defeat with PSG in 2020 by lifting the revered trophy this year after Chelsea defeated Manchester City in the showpiece summit clash.
